人生信条:“To possess a second language is to possess a second soul.”

Topic: In most countries disabled people are not catered for adequately, e.g. buildings are often inappropriately designed. Governments rely too heavily on charities and voluntary organizations to provide assistance and funding.

    ESSAY:

Recently, most of people are leading convenient and easy lives. However, a small part of them - the disabled people are unable to enjoy such benefits, which should be given to more people that have a verifiable disability. Unfortunately, some of them do not think highly of themselves, some of them even feel that they are discriminated by the society. As a result, safeguarding the rights and interests of disabled people becomes the thorny issue which challenges many countries. To combat against this problem, the joint effort of the whole world is necessary due to the fact that everyone is equal.

Above all, it has to be admitted that governments play the most essential roles in solving this inequality. Communicating with individuals who are deaf-blind is a unique experience. The language, mode, style, speed, and aids and devices used to facilitate communication are different from person to person. Firstly, in the public places all kinds of facilities should be designed in a reasonable way for them such as the public toilets and the signs of the roads. Secondly, governments should offer more job opportunities and social welfare. This kind of special care may help build up their confidence and values. In addition, setting down effective laws to protect disabled people could be a feasible measure.

Actually, some governments do not have extra time and effort to do these efforts. Thus, what they should do is cooperating with many charities, voluntary organizations and even media but not depending on them. With the help of governments, charities could build more schools to train the disabled people and teach them how to make a living. Voluntary organizations could organize some activities to help them too. Besides, media coverage may arouse people’s awareness of protecting the disabled people’s rights and try to provide helpful hints about techniques that will enhance comfort and ease people’s concerns when working with deaf-blind, disabled people.

It can not be denied that disabled people are an important part of our society. And we do have responsibilities to give them “a hand”.
